Rita's brother, Ike
Hurricane Rita's little brother Ike payed us a visit today, and he seems to be acting just like his "witch" of a sister. It's like deja vu down here. The only difference is that Texas was also affected by Ike, whereas Rita just missed it. We evacuated back to Maw Maw's house in Lafayette for the night, because the water was supposed to rise during the night, and we would've been trapped. Around 2:45 this morning, we all woke up to watch the weather, and I ended up staying awake from fear. There were tornadoes popping up all around us, and we think that we heard one outside. We heard on the news that the sheriff's department would turn away anyone trying to enter the parish, but Dad wasn't having that. We ended up heading home, and after some detours because our usual route was flooded, we made it and found that our house is okay. However, the coulee in our neighborhood is about to overflow, and the Vermilion River is spilling onto the streets. Hopefully, we won't have to leave again. In not-so-good news, our good friends who live about 3 or 4 miles south of us (who just finished salvaging and remodeling their house after Rita flooded halfway up their walls and cars) have water in their house again. Needless to say, we don't like Ike.
